Water that is available for irrigation, washing, cooking and drinking is a challenge in the remote areas of the Sarstun region of Guatemala.
November 2025, S.H.A.R.E. and its southern partner APROSARSTUN complete another water project - a storage and distribution system for the villagers of El Naranjal, a remote, indigenous, agricultural community located within the Sarstún protected area of north-eastern Guatemala.
Villages in the region typically rely on nearby surface water sources which must be collected daily and transported by family members back to the household. This new central system now delivers gravity fed tap water directly to each household, including the school and church.
One problem remained to be solved - the village’s sole water source is from surface springs, and it tests as non-potable.
So, concurrent with the new system, S.H.A.R.E., along with financial support from Caledon Rotary installed UZIMA household water filters for each household and school.
